The first Air Max debuted in 1987

Nike debuted in 1972 as the Blue Ribbon Company. They were an instant hit with the Aztec running shoe. In 1978 they became what we know today as Nike. The Aztecs became the Cortez and continued to be a successful silhouette. Nike continued to have success with the Jordan 1 in 1985. By 1987 the company began to plateau. That us until March 26, 1987.

The Air Max 1 debuted that day. It was the first sneaker to feature air cushioning technology with a visible window. The Hatfield design was comprised of nylon and synthetic felt upper. The leather debuted in 1988. In 2014 Nike debuted Air Max day to celebrate the iconic sneaker.

Air Max Plus Icon features gradient blue

As we get closer to the Air Max day. Nike is giving us a look at the ‘Icon Pack’ and the Air Max Plus silhouette. It features a bright green swoosh with matching eye stays and laces. The insole is black with green ‘Icon’ lettering. The gradient blue offers a nice hue against the black webbing and white midsole. No release date has been given, but we can expect it to drop in 2023 with a $180 price tag. Check out more images below.
