The Air Jordan 1 high is back with a new colorway. 1984 was a big year. There was the first trans-Atlantic flight in a helium balloon. The Apple Macintosh computer debuted in a Superbowl ad and went on sale. It was also the rookie for one of the greatest players in the history of the NBA. ’84 was Michael Jordan’s rookie year. This was also when the iconic Air Jordan 1 high debuted.
The Jordan 1 hit the league and like its namesake made its mark. Unlike today’s basketball shoes which are bright and multi-colored. 1984 basketball shoes were all white or black. Sometimes that had a splash of team color. The original Jordan was wrapped in red, black, and white or Bred and is known today. This violated the league’s policy and Jordan was fined $5000 per game the shoes were worn.
New to the basketball world Nike saw a golden marketing opportunity. They began a campaign stating that the NBA does want the shoe, but you can have the shoe. By the end of 1984 shoe sales reached over $120 million.
Jordan continues the color toe blocking with the UNC toe. This rendition of the Jordan 1 features black overlays and collar. The mid panel is wrapped in smooth white leather. The UNC inspired toe box sport tumbled leather.
This Jordan doesn’t deviate from other version. The tongue tag is nylon with UNC colored branding. The solid rubber outsole is swimming in university blue. Although 1s have been moving like they have in the past don’t sleep on the one. For more Jordan reviews check out this article.
